COGNISINT

Advancing humane legal solutions through intelligent automation

Overview

Cognisint is a legal technology consulting and development practice focused on building AI-driven solutions for legal, compliance, and document management teams.

Our most recent project is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server ecosystem with over 70 specialized tools and resident thin-client apps that safely connect and orchestrate multiple LLMs with live legal, regulatory, and operational data while maintaining security, auditability, and least-privilege access—all built on a foundation of rigorous ethical protocols, strict fact adherence, and a holistic, human-centered, wellness-first ethos.

Our work includes smart legal workflow platforms, contract and litigation document analysis tools, and research into legal knowledge management, compliance automation, and AI-assisted document generation.

We serve in-house legal teams, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations seeking to reduce manual review time, improve matter visibility, and build more humane, accountable systems.

About the Principal

David Towne is an attorney and technologist who founded Cognisint to bridge the gap between legal practice and modern technology. With over twenty years of experience advising individuals, businesses, and government agencies, David witnessed how disconnected systems and manual processes created unnecessary burden for legal professionals—accelerating burnout in a field already notorious for grinding down empathy and creativity.

His transition into full-stack development and AI implementation reflects a broader conviction: legal technology should reduce cognitive load and administrative friction, not compound it. David's work focuses on building tools that respect the complexity of legal work while making it more sustainable for the people doing it.

Prior to founding Cognisint, David practiced law in Michigan for over two decades. After ten years in creditors rights litigation, he founded Commonwealth Law Group, PLC, focusing on real property, business, and domestic relations law. When the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted plans and expectations on a global scale, David and his partner made the difficult decision to wind down Commonwealth and pursue new directions.

After Commonwealth, David transitioned back into a public service role, having previously worked in local government, for the legislature, and as judicial staff. As an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Michigan, he drew on his consumer protection, corporate, litigation, and real estate expertise to advise the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA).

After three years navigating state bureaucracy, David became acutely focused on leveraging technology to counteract institutional dysfunction rather than amplify it. He brings a unique combination of legal training and technical depth to every project, with a particular focus on ethical AI implementation and security-first design.
